Ethan Iverson was born February 11, 1973 in Menomonie, Wisconsin. He moved to New York City in 1991 and studied piano with Fred Hersch and Sophia Rosoff. From 1998 until 2002 he was the music director of the Mark Morris Dance Group.

In December 2000, the collective The Bad Plus with bassist Reid Anderson and drummer David King recorded their debut album for Fresh Sound New Talent records.  A self-produced recording and many self-produced gigs led to the Columbia release These Are The Vistas.
